Man I just broke back into my account after losing the keys, man this was a real pain.
Nobody reads this , but if you do I just went to see the Last of the Hobbit Trilogy with my Son's
last night, its a real shame too. Not that I didn't love it. The shame is that it finally came to an end,
which is sorta sad.
It's been a long quest 14 years in the making, going all the way back to 2001
Movie #1
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001
My Son Jacob conned me into taking him to the first movie, because it was on Dec 19, which was
a day after his birthday technically the 18th at Midnight. Those were wild times, geeks used to dress-up and stand in long lines to go the the movies, his mom i think was mad a me at the time,
since the next day was likely a school day. From his first humble con-job as tradition was born.
Movie #2 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002 and so we returned to the quest, once again creeping out at late hours to share popcorn, longlines, and enduring ire to take in a Special Flick. I think by this time Mom, saw it as a bonding exercise and only griped to make the event Sweeter. Dec 18th this year Dec 17th at Midnight, I think this was a very sweet year.
Movie #3 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003 this one was on Dec 17th, but it
was bitter sweet the quest was coming to an end, as far as we knew it, and I was little bit saddened to see it all end. All the while Jakes little brother Ian was getting bigger, we bought the boxed set of these three movies and watched the Tar out of them. Bought figures painted them,
even scratch built helms deep with tower and deepening wall included...
Then the rumors came, Peter Jackson wanted to do the Hobbit! We waited with baited breath for years, I fantasized about another quest taking both my son's to another set of LOTR's Movies... it took a very long time. but it finally happened in 2012.
Movie # 4 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey This was awesome Dec 14th 2012 was the date but the quest was renewed, and we got to add an extra player. Both my son's came with me
the circle was complete. either Movie #4 or Movie #5 we had an extra Special twist the weather
was cold wet & Ice covered the roads were dicey at Midnight. When we walked out of the Movie their was an Inch of ice on the cars, Boy's looks like tomorrow going to be a snow day I remarked,
and it was the roads were pure slippery hell, like climbing the Scree in Modror, but it was worth every minute of it. I think that was the Christmas one of my son's got Sting, yes the short sword for christmas. It's all part of the quest.
Movie #5 The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug This one was Dec 13th, 2013 and to be honest I was beginning to see the end coming to our quest, My oldest son well was getting older, and my youngest son was getting older too, where does time go in ones life. We have so little to show for it all in the end, but its our little traditions and rituals that help assure us all is well, life will go on. Yes we have lost family members along the way, but the rituals and traditions are the way we honor what has gone before us, even if we don't mention it out loud, or even give it conscious voice. Peter Jackson Thank you for a long Quest and a wonderful ride with my boys, and if ever another LOTR movie Comes your way, Grab it! We'll Be there. Did you see Cobert? We did, go back watch it again till you find him, he's a not so secret LOTR's Geek Too! we were treated to an awesome meteor shower on our trip home with several flashing and banging in the sky lighting up the snow covered fields around us, it was a great way to end the night.
Movie #6 The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies This one was Dec. 16th at 9 pm 7 pm if you wanted 3D, I always hated 3d I felt 3d was a trick to make bad movies passable, so we wen to the 9 pm show in Alma, the last few years we've driven to Alma because the audience was more into it and less rude than other places. Have you hear about black stocking suit wearing Movie Ninja's? In Some places they hire people in black head to toe outfits to slip around the movie and still the rude people with a hand over their mouths...don't think that would fly in the USA. I won't post any spoilers except to say I wasn't disappoints by the movie, yes it did stray from the book, with some battles and love interests, but don't all movies. It was midnight as we drove home thrilled, but quiet in the car, maybe realizing the quest was finally over after 13 years, as the car dash clock struck 12:01 we wished Jacob Happy Birthday, I passed a small token to him for completing the quest with us.
I don't know what new quest we can develop to keep this run going? I have some Orc's and Goblins yet to paint, but the Dwarvish Questors are done now, would you like to see them?
CAN YOU NAME THE MEMBERS OF THE QUEST?
CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE THEY ARE GOING? WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO?
IF YOU SEE THE MOVIE, WHO LIVES AND WHO DIES?
